Jorge Arango

Founder and Principal, Boot Studio LLC. Information Architect. Strategic design consultant, author, and educator. Over 25 years architecting digital experiences for organizations including non-profits and Fortune-500 companies.

As a trained architect who switched to UX design with the arrival of the web in the mid-1990s, Jorge brings sense and order to complex system design projects by using architectural thinking. Over the past twenty-five years, he has architected digital experiences and “made the complex clear” for all sorts of organizations, from non-profits to Fortune-500 corporations.

His areas of expertise include designing system models and frameworks, synthesizing research findings into actionable insights, and directing design teams to turn abstract ideas into concrete, testable prototypes.

Jorge is the author of Living in Information: Responsible Design for Digital Places (Two Waves Books, 2018) and co-author of Information Architecture: For the Web and Beyond (O’Reilly Media, 2015). He’s also a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at global design conferences. In addition to his strategic design consulting practice, Jorge also writes a blog, hosts The Informed Life podcast, and teaches systems design and prototyping in the graduate interaction design program at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Jorge sees architecture as a way to design information environments that respect and serve humanity. His focus is on the creation of conceptual structures and systems that are sustainable economically, socially, and ecologically.

Jorge has also served the global UX community as president and director of the Information Architecture Institute and as thematic director of the first World IA Day.

He lives in the San Francisco Bay area.
